Practicing the flute in quiet spaces gets much easier with the didi Type03 Volume Adjuster from Japanese maker Fue Kobo Aihara. This clever accessory slips directly over your flute's lip plate and narrows the embouchure hole, cutting your playing volume to less than half its normal level. It's made in Japan from black ABS resin, with a screwless design covered under design registration number 1686128.

The didi series was created by Fue Kobo Aihara to give flutists more control over their instrument's output. The Type03 focuses purely on muting, which makes it a more affordable option than the Type01 and Type02. Its shape has also been reworked to remove excess material near the lip contact area, so it stays comfortable to play even with the reduced volume.

To fit it, slide the adjuster gently onto the lip plate from the crown side of the headjoint, with the grooved side facing outward. Covering more of the embouchure hole gives stronger muting, while leaving a bit of the lip plate visible makes it easier to blow, so experiment by rotating it slightly forward or backward until you find the balance that suits your playing.

This item is brand new. Because it sits snugly against the metal, keep the contact area clean to avoid friction marks on your headjoint, and avoid long exposure to direct sunlight or solvents.

Designed solely for muting, it reduces volume to approximately half or less during normal playing. The position can be adjusted by rotating it forward or backward for preferred playing comfort and muting effect. Results vary depending on the instrument, playing technique, and setup.

Install gently from the crown end of the headjoint, with the grooved side facing outward. Contact with dirt or certain tube materials may cause scuffs. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and solvents.
