Kabayaki Fountain Pen Ink

Order via Japan Rabbit

BUNGUBOX Kabayaki Ink brings the rich, appetizing look of Japanese cuisine right to your fountain pen. This deep, dark brown shade captures the color of the glossy sauce used on traditional grilled eel. Formulated by Sailor Fountain Pen, this 50ml bottle of dye-based ink comes in its original packaging with a custom label and product description.

The specialty stationery brand BUNGUBOX got its start in Hamamatsu, a city known across Japan for its musical instruments, mandarin oranges, and eels. In 2012, BUNGUBOX created two inks to honor its home city: one inspired by mandarin oranges, and this one, inspired by the dark brown kabayaki sauce that gives grilled eel its irresistible taste.

Eel is a high-protein summer delicacy in Japan, eaten on special days for strength through the hot, humid season. This ink was re-released to mark one such occasion, Eel Day, on July 30, 2023. It's a fun taste of Japanese regional culture, meant strictly for your paper and not your rice.
