KMZ Helios-33 35mm F2 Modified Rangefinder-Coupled Leica L39 Lens
This custom modified KMZ Helios-33 2/35 brings classic Soviet optics to your Leica thread mount camera. Weighing just 85 grams, this fast F2 prime offers a distinctive look and a fascinating slice of optical history. Krasnogorsky Zavod, known as KMZ, produced some of the most iconic glass of the Soviet era, and rangefinder conversions like this one have become favorites among classic lens enthusiasts.
The lens features a standard Leica L39 mount, smooth helicoid rotation, and accurate rangefinder coupling, with a minimum focus distance of approximately one meter. Its image circle behaves like that of a wide-angle cine lens, which causes slight corner vignetting on full-frame sensors. For best results, use it on an APS-C format body or a full-frame mirrorless camera such as the Sony alpha 7 series set to roughly 1.2x crop.
The lens body shows very little wear for its age, and infinity focus is set accurately, with precise rangefinder coupling. The optical elements are clear of mold, haze, and balsam separation, with only minor age-appropriate dust inside. Fine hairline cleaning marks are present on the front element, but they do not affect actual image quality.
Carrying serial number 015113, the lens includes aperture markings from F2 to F16 and comes with front and rear lens caps.
Modified KMZ Helios-33 35mm f/2 lens with Leica L39 mount and rangefinder coupling. Aperture range: f/2 to f/16; minimum focusing distance: approximately 1 m; weight: 85 g; serial number: 015113. Includes front and rear caps.
The lens shows relatively little wear for its age. The focusing helicoid rotates smoothly, infinity focus is correctly set, and rangefinder coupling is accurate. The front element has fine hairline cleaning marks that do not affect images. Internal elements are clear, with no fungus, balsam separation, or haze; dust is commensurate with age.
As with wide-angle cine lenses, the image circle produces slight corner vignetting on full-frame cameras. Recommended for APS-C cameras or use at approximately 1.2x zoom on Sony α7-series cameras with a zoom function.
