Lewis & Durk LDx5 Full Double Horn with Hand-Hammered Bell
The Lewis & Durk LDx5 full double horn brings together the expertise of Chicago horn maker Steven W. Lewis and German master craftsman Dietmar Dürk. Built around 2010, this instrument blends American performance insight with traditional German workshop precision. Designed with special tools and processes to minimize stress on the metal during manufacturing, it delivers an open, clear sound with a smooth attack that responds naturally to your breath.
This model features an unlacquered yellow brass body with a 310mm medium throat and a hand-hammered bell flare weighing 428g. It is built with a 12.1mm bore, rotary chord action, a fixed left-hand pinky hook, and an adjustable fourth rotary lever. The hand-hammered bell combined with the raw, unlacquered finish offers a rich, vivid resonance and flexible expression.
This is a used instrument in good overall condition. The rotary valves have been disassembled, the internal tubing has been chemically cleaned, consumables have been replaced, and all parts have been fully serviced. There is a small, shallow dent on the side of the first joint behind the bell, as well as minor scattered dent repair marks on the mouthpiece pipe reinforcement plate, the bell base, and the bell flare. The unlacquered brass shows natural discoloration, tarnishing, and light water spots inside the bell, but no rust or corrosion is present. It includes an MB case, though the case exterior is torn, stained, and damaged at the fastening button.

The hand-hammered bell is made using a process different from standard bells. The instrument has an open, clear response with a smooth attack and easily centered pitch.
Includes an MB case with tears, stains, and damage to the fastening button. There is a small shallow dent on the side of the first branch behind the bell, sold as is. Small shallow dent repair marks are present on the mouthpiece pipe reinforcement plate, side of the bell base, and bell flare. The unlacquered surface shows discoloration, tarnish, and some water marks inside the bell, with no rust or corrosion. Otherwise, it is in good condition with no notable dents or scratches. Rotary valves have been disassembled, tubing chemically cleaned, consumable parts replaced, and all parts serviced and inspected.
