You can choose your preferred nib width: extra fine, fine, medium-fine, or medium (extra fine runs quite thin and suits more experienced glass pen users, so be sure to note your choice clearly when ordering, since there's no dropdown for it). If you'd like, you can also request an opal-infused blossom, made with clear glass so the opal shimmer shows through.
Each pen is handcrafted by the artisans at Tachibana Glass Studio, shaped one at a time over an open flame using borosilicate glass, the same sturdy, heat-resistant material used in laboratory beakers and test tubes. Every shaft, glass charm, and nib is made entirely by hand, so no two pens share quite the same shape or color. Part of the joy is discovering the one pattern that feels made just for you.
The nib is cut with ten fine grooves to keep ink flowing smoothly across the page, and like all glass dip pens, it works with everything from standard fountain pen ink to shimmering, glitter-infused formulas; just rinse with water to switch between them. This brand new pen arrives in a dedicated box with an instruction manual covering proper use and care. Please note that the nib is ground and finished only after you order, so it takes about a week to prepare before your pen ships.
