Tadashi Hamanishi brings timeless Japanese craft to your desk with the HAMA-03 wooden pencil box. Each case features hand-carved textures, ranging from intricate honeycomb patterns and diagonal lines to grooves that follow the natural wood grain. The lid snaps shut with an integrated magnet, while two carved channels on the underside offer a convenient spot to rest your pen. Finished in natural oil, it is designed to make you want to set aside your digital devices and write a handwritten letter.
Crafted in Osaka by artisan Tadashi Hamanishi, each box demonstrates a high level of woodworking skill: carving along the grain demands constantly shifting hand pressure and control, which only comes with years of practice. Options include walnut lids paired with cherry bases, dyed finishes, and geometric carvings. Since each piece is handmade from natural wood, the grain and exact dimensions are unique to every item.
