MAVIC Mektronic Late Model New Unused

Order via Japan Rabbit

Step into cycling history with an unused MAVIC Mechatronic late model group set. Launched in 1999 as the world's first wireless electronic shifting system, this setup holds a famous, if troubled, place in component lore: its infrared signal was prone to interference and its mechanical reliability was shaky, so it never caught on in racing and became something of a legend rather than a standard. Early versions surface on the collector market once or twice a year, but finding this later model in brand new, unused condition is rare enough that it may never come around again.

Before modern wireless standards existed, MAVIC designed this system to send infrared signals from the levers to the rear derailleur. Shifting was driven by pulley rotation rather than an internal motor. The original version featured pointed lever hoods that the UCI banned as a safety hazard, leading MAVIC to trim the profile down for this later model. Quirky legends still surround its infrared tech, including stories of shifts triggered by automatic doors or high-voltage power lines.

This complete package includes the brake levers, rear derailleur, computer, speed sensor and magnet, shift and brake cables, instruction manual, and stickers. The set is new and unused, though electrical power and operation remain unconfirmed. Please refer to the images to evaluate this rare relic of French cycling engineering.

Rare later-version Mavic Mektronic electronic wireless shifting system, new and unused. Originally released in 1999 as the world’s first electronically operated wireless shifting system, it uses infrared communication to send signals to the rear actuator and shifts via pulley rotation rather than a motor.

This later version was redesigned with the bracket corners removed after the original shape was banned by the UCI. Operation and power-on status have not been tested.

Includes brake levers, rear derailleur, computer, speed sensor and magnet, shift and brake cables, instruction manual, and stickers. Please refer to the photos for condition.
