From the moment you open the pouch, sweet floral aromas fill the air, evolving into soothing lavender notes as it brews. With low astringency, low umami, and a light roast, this regular steamed sencha (harvested May 3, 2025) crafts a remarkably smooth cup, one that feels like a fusion of traditional green tea and an almost unfermented oolong.
Shizuoka is celebrated worldwide as the heartland of Japanese green tea, yet this batch showcases a modern twist. The Nagomiyutaka cultivar was developed at Miyazaki Prefecture's agricultural experiment station and registered in 2010. It pairs exceptionally well with withering, a process that draws out intense, flower-like aromatics; these grow even more pronounced by the second and third steep, tickling the nose with a floral clarity rarely found in withered steamed green teas.
For the best results, try 4g of leaves with 70ml of water at 70°C, steeped for about 70 seconds.
Pesticide-free Nagomiyutaka Sencha from Motofujikawa, Kawanehon, Haibara District, Shizuoka Prefecture. This 30 g loose-leaf green tea was harvested on May 3, 2025.
Nagomiyutaka is a cultivar developed by the Miyazaki Prefectural Agricultural Research Institute and registered in 2010. This lightly withered, normally steamed sencha has a strong, clear floral aroma that develops into lavender-like notes, with light umami, very low astringency, moderate body, and light firing. It offers a rare balance between steamed green tea and minimally oxidized, lightly fired oolong tea, becoming more aromatic in the second and third infusions.
Brewing guide: Use 4 g of tea with 70 ml of water at 70°C; steep for 70 seconds.
