OD+PL Natural Indigo “Ame” Sashiko 6-Panel Cotton Cap

Rain-like streaks run across the rich blue surface of the OD+PL Natural Indigo "Ame" Sashiko 6-Panel Cap. Crafted in Japan from 100% cotton, this cap showcases a custom sashiko fabric woven with undyed stitch threads against natural indigo yarn, giving its face the streaked, rain-like look that gives the cap its name ("ame" means rain).

The fabric is dyed using kasezome, a traditional skein-dyeing technique in which loose coils of yarn are dipped by hand into natural indigo vats. Because the dye penetrates deep into the core of each thread rather than just the surface, the color fades far more gradually than rope-dyed indigo, letting the cap develop its own character over years of wear.

This piece marks the inaugural collaboration between Okayama Denim and Plest, produced exclusively by the one-man workshop Tsujimura-Ai in Hamamatsu. The six-panel crown follows an orthodox baseball cap pattern, paired with a semi-structured brim finished in chainstitch for a vintage workwear feel at the peak.

Thoughtful details sit hidden inside and out: four metal eyelets at the crown panels for ventilation, a single red inner piping strip running the interior circumference, and an original hand-dyed, debossed red leather tab. The adjustable leather strap at the rear closes with a metal buckle and fits head circumferences from 54 to 62cm (21.2" to 24.4"), with its strap eyelet finished in red buttonhole stitching that echoes the construction of a denim waistband.

Brand new and made entirely in Japan, it's a distinctive way to wear a piece of Japanese textile craft every day.
