Ohashido 21K Ebonite Urushi Lacquer Fountain Pen, Maruzen Limited Model Type, Near Mint Rare
Hold a piece of Sendai penmaking heritage with this rare handmade fountain pen from OHASIDO. Founded in 1912, OHASIDO is celebrated worldwide by pen enthusiasts for its traditional craftsmanship. Because new pens from the brand are now nearly impossible to acquire, finding one in exceptional condition is a special event for collectors.
This pen features an ebonite body finished in textured urushi lacquer. Layers of ivory and green tones create a subtle pattern inspired by natural bamboo, giving the pen a refined Japanese look. It is fitted with a 21K gold nib engraved OHASIDO J.S.U 21K (J.S.U standing for Japan Sendai Uehara), built on a trusted Sailor-made gold nib base for a soft, luxurious writing feel in an estimated broad line width. Measuring about 145 mm when capped, it runs on a cartridge or converter system, and a converter is already installed. This rare design closely matches a five-piece limited run of a related color variant shown at the 2017 Maruzen World Fountain Pen Fair in Nihombashi, and is thought to be tied to that same exhibition or made as a special order.
The pen is in near mint condition and appears unused, with no visible damage. To preserve its original state, it has not been tested with ink. It comes with its original wooden box, custom pen sheath, a care and caution sheet, and an insert detailing the career and honors of master craftsman Eiichi Uehara.
