Koju traces its roots to the early Tensho era in Kyoto, founded by Yasuda Buemon Minamoto Mitsuhiro, a descendant of the Seiwa Genji line, and it once served the Imperial Court directly. The fourth-generation master was summoned by Tokugawa Ieyasu, traveling between Sunpu and Edo while building the house's reputation in Kyoto. By the Edo period, the eighth generation, Takai Juemon, had become a celebrated incense master within the tea ceremony world; his blended incense, including "Chitose," presented to Emperor Kokaku, is still recorded among the treasured formulas he supplied to tea schools across Japan. He later set down his techniques and philosophy in the "Koju Takai Juemon Family Record of Blended Incense," a text that still guides the house today. This special edition honors that centuries-old tradition, pairing classic methods with modern refinement and the finest incense materials available.
Each set contains 50 incense sticks along with a dedicated incense stand. The sticks measure approximately 86 mm in length, packaged neatly in a box measuring roughly 60 by 145 by 18 mm.
