Add quiet elegance to a wall with this copper and glass flower vase, designed by Satoshi Saito in Hayama, Japan. A thin copper plate is hand hammered and finished with a soft green patina that mimics komorebi: the dappled sunlight filtering through leaves. At its center sits a simple glass test tube for fresh blooms, botanical greenery, or reed diffuser sticks.
The green patina is a natural oxide layer that forms on copper and is not toxic. Here it's applied intentionally, using chemicals, water, and sunlight, to mimic the look of natural aging, and the color will continue to deepen over time. Because each piece is hammered and finished by hand, the resulting shape is never perfectly straight; like fired pottery, no two pieces come out quite the same.
The vase measures approximately 363mm by 64mm by 20mm, with a removable glass test tube 15mm in diameter and 150mm long. To care for it, hand wash gently with water, wipe completely dry, then let it finish drying in the sun. Slight variations in color and form are part of the handmade process, making each piece uniquely yours.
