Wooden Okiyuka Inlay Coaster

Order via Japan Rabbit

This wooden coaster features charming artwork by illustrator Shichimi, recreated using traditional Japanese wood inlay techniques. Crafted individually by artisan Koya, the design is formed by fitting together three distinct wood types: walnut, black cherry, and hinoki cypress. No dyes or paints are used; the illustration takes shape entirely through the natural color variations of the raw wood.

Traditional wood inlay, or zogan, is a meticulous Japanese craft where contrasting pieces of timber are shaped and assembled like a fine puzzle. Because each coaster is hand-fitted piece by piece, expect slight individual variations in grain and finish: a small reminder that this is functional art, not a mass-produced print.

This is a made-to-order item, with orders accepted from 2026/02/26 to 2026/03/08. Since each piece is worked by hand, production takes time, and coasters ship in the order completed rather than all at once. The wait rewards you with a quiet, beautiful accent piece where modern illustration meets classic Japanese woodworking.
