In Japan, tenugui are traditional, multipurpose cotton cloths used for drying hands, wrapping items, or displaying as wall art. The hobby of exploring ankyo, covered urban waterways, offers a unique way to uncover hidden stories beneath the modern pavement. Revised in March 2024, this readable towel invites you to trace old water routes while enjoying a casual stroll through the city.

Each towel measures 35 by 90 cm and is crafted in Japan near the Hontsu River in Kagawa, said to be where Momotaro's grandmother once did her laundry. Made from 100 percent cotton using a traditional hand-dyeing technique, the dyes penetrate deeply so the design shows beautifully on both sides. The short ends feature authentic raw edges that may fray slightly at first, settling into a soft, comfortable fringe with use.
