Step into the wild, bittersweet flavors of a remote Japanese island with the Scarlet Hachijojima Amaro Batch 02 from Iseya Distillery. Crafted using botanicals from Hachijojima, including herbs grown at Nishino Farm, this herbal liqueur uses a traditional island spirit as its base. It delivers a rich profile: earthy notes, gentle sweetness, pleasing bitterness, and a deep, lingering finish. Each bottle holds 700ml at 26 percent alcohol.
Amaro is a classic European style of herbal liqueur, and Iseya Distillery gives it a distinctly Japanese spin. Working out of a restored, 100-year-old traditional home in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, the distillery handles every step of production by hand, from distilling to bottling. Founder Tatsuya Motonaga developed his approach after visiting more than 70 distilleries across Europe, aiming to make spirits that reveal both the land and the people behind them.
This batch continues a project born from necessity: rising material costs and typhoon damage have put real pressure on Hachijojima's farmers. Proceeds from this release, tied to a crowdfunding effort with Nishino Farm, go directly to the island's agricultural cooperative, helping carry its farming traditions into the future. One sip, and you're tasting the island itself.
