Fleur Tetsuya Yamada Antique L Fork Yamazakura Lacquer Bronze

Order via Japan Rabbit

Bring a quiet, antique elegance to your dining table with this handcrafted large fork by woodworker Tetsuya Yamada, made under his brand Fureru. Carved from Japanese mountain cherry wood and finished with urushi lacquer, it takes on a subtle bronze hue where gray and gold seem to blend together. The square handle sits comfortably in the hand, smooth to the touch and quietly elegant.

Measuring about 22 centimeters long, 3 centimeters at its widest point, and weighing only around 13 grams, this fork is generously sized yet light to hold. The wide tines and long handle make it easy to catch slippery foods like olives and penne, and it's just as at home with breakfast salads, pancakes, or ham and eggs. Unlike metal cutlery, the lacquered wood is gentle on ceramic and glassware, so it won't scratch your favorite dishes. With use, the surface will deepen in color and develop its own character over time, so treat it well: hand wash promptly after use, dry thoroughly with a soft cloth, and avoid the microwave, dishwasher, oven, and open flame.

Tetsuya Yamada was born in Okinawa and raised in Shimane. Before turning to woodworking, he spent six years as a buyer and floor chief at a record store in Osaka. He later trained in woodworking techniques and joined Nishi-Awakura's "Mori no Gakko" woodworking company, where he focused on product planning and development for wooden goods. Since going independent as a woodworker in 2013, he has concentrated on cutlery and tableware, and alongside his craft, he runs a select shop for everyday goods inside "Fureru Shokudo," the restaurant his wife runs.
