Antique Fork L, Japanese Cherry Wood, Tetsuya Yamada

Order via Japan Rabbit

Add natural warmth to your dining table with this Antique Fork L by Japanese artisan Tetsuya Yamada, made under his craft brand Fureru. Handcrafted from Yamazakura wood, also known as Japanese wild cherry, the fork pairs a smooth, comfortable texture with an elegant, antique-inspired silhouette. Yamada creates his pieces from an old house in a seaside town, shaping practical utensils that bring the gentle feel of nature into everyday meals.

The fork has an easy-to-hold square handle and measures about 22.0 cm long and 3.0 cm at its widest point, weighing roughly 12 grams. Its long handle and broad tines make it easy to pick up foods that tend to slip, like penne or olives, and it works just as well for ham and eggs, salads, or pancakes at breakfast. Wood conducts heat poorly, so it stays comfortable to hold even with hot or cold dishes, and it's gentle on ceramic or glass tableware, so no scratches to worry about.

This is a new, unused piece finished with a food-safe prepolymer coating, the same type used on wooden tableware for school lunches, chosen for its strength and water resistance. Because each fork is cut from natural timber, grain patterns and color tone vary slightly from piece to piece, and the wood will deepen in color and character the more you use it.

To keep it in good condition, wash by hand soon after use (lukewarm water is fine), then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth; letting it air-dry fully helps prevent mold. Avoid microwaves, dishwashers, ovens, and open flames, and don't let it sit for long in water, direct sunlight, or with dark, staining foods like curry. With a little care, this fork will only grow more beautiful with time, becoming a one-of-a-kind piece that's truly yours.
